Prosody Castle 3.3- Urban Real(i)ty Nov. 18th, 2pm. $5 start at The Gallery of Urban Art (1746 13th St. @ Wood- near Mandela Pkwy/West Oakland BART)

Prosody Castle hits the streets with a guerilla installation tour of out of the way Oakland. Original, word-based works appear in public places on or near the 18th- we take you to them before the city destroys them, giving you an early chance to see them evolve. The show will culminate in performances and viewings at the Gallery of Urban Art. Please join us on a Sunday afternoon, get in our van and enjoy the tour.

Iranian Literary Arts Festival Nov 13th-17th

The Iranian Arts Festival, November 13-17, offers a variety of programming, including 9 films, 2 panels, keynote talk by distinguished Iranian writer, Moniru Ravanipur, parties, and the world premier of ICARUS/RISE, a provocative theatrical piece based on new Iranian poetry, with original score by Bobak Salehi and choreography and video by Alex Ketley (formerly of SF and LINES Ballet). Festival registration is easy: buy a ticket for one of 3 ICARUS/RISE performances and gain full access to festival events! William Trevor International Short Competition- deadline November 30th, 2007

         WILLIAM TREVOR INTERNATIONAL SHORT STORY COMPETITION 2007.

The organizing committee of the above competition is pleased to announce that entries are now being accepted for the William Trevor Short Story Competition 2007.

Now in its second year, there was an excellent response to the first year’s competition with entries having been received from Australia, England, India, Italy, Scotland, Singapore and U.S.A. as well as from nearly every county in Ireland. “This is an ideal opportunity for creative writers to have the standard of their literary efforts appraised as the short list will be adjudicated by William Trevor, the greatest living exponent of the art of short story writing”, said Liam Cusack, the Chairperson of the organizing committee. “ I suppose competition, in any facet of life, is the act of testing oneself against, or being judged by, the best and in this competition that tenet certainly holds true”, he added.

Each story should contain a maximum of 3000 words and should be submitted, by post only, on or before Friday 30th November 2007. The winner will receive the Cork County Council Library Services Prize of €2,500 and a Laptop Computer sponsored by The Mouse Pad, Mitchelstown. Five runners up will receive cash prizes of €200.00 each. There is an entry fee of €20.00 per entry and each entry must have an official entry form attached.

Touchstone Literary Journal Accepting Submissions- deadline November 9, 2007

Attention Writers,
Touchstone, Kansas State University's literary journal, is now accepting
fiction, nonfiction, and poetry submissions for its 2007-2008
publication.

At this time, we will gladly accept submissions that adhere to this
format:
Include your contact information (name and address) in the body of your
message and attach submissions as Word documents or Rich Text Format
(rtf) files to your email.

UNLV Rogers Fellowship- Feb. 15th, 2008

The UNLV English Department is again offering a five-year fellowship (the
"Rogers Fellowship") for holders of the BA degree which will pay a
stipend of
$25,000/year for five years of PhD study, along with all tuition and
fees. For
two years of the fellowship no teaching is required. Would you please
recommend
us to any undergraduate students that you think would be appropriate?
They must
take both the GRE verbal and literature test (this latter one offered
only in
October and November) to be eligible. Deadline for application is Feb. 15. I
would of course be very glad to respond to any inquiries from interested
applicants. Information about the Rogers Fellowship is also available on the

First issue will be handsomely photocopied & distributed as widely as
funds allow in the first month of 2008.

P-queue call for work- Jan. 1st

P-queue  is a SUNY Buffalo-based journal of poetry and poetics, and we are currently seeking submissions for our 2008 volume. P-Queue is
interested in 'hybrid' work—what toggles between poetry & prose, critical & creative, "academic" & "non-academic," the visual & the written.

For Vol. 5 (the first in our second series!), we're especially interested in the question of "care."

To this end, we'll be more inclined to consider collaborations, conversations, collocations, correspondences, and the like. These are of course loosely
and widely interpretable, but what we want is a representation of ways of being together in language, ways of being in language together.

Consider:
-selections from letters ('literary' or otherwise)
-conversations (recorded, repeated, replayed, etc.)
-collaboration: in composition, in editing: work that widens the scene of writing, the scene of reading
-collocation: the prosodic or the rhetorical: work that calls us to it, calls us together, to space created

And as always, we’re looking to question genre and convention (and to question the _questioning_ of genre & convention!).

Our covers are (lovingly, care-fully) letterpressed, the journal often include images and 'manipulated' texts, and we pride ourselves on the
appearance of the publication. P-Queue is published annually (the 2008 yearbook will appear in Summer 08). To receive full consideration, please try
to submit work by Jan. 1.
